Mission
Friends of Karen’s mission is to provide emotional, financial, and advocacy support for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families, in order to help keep them stable, functioning, and able to cope.
Since our founding in 1978, we have served over 4,000 children and their families. When siblings are counted we have touched the lives of over 10,000 children.
Friends of Karen offers its services regardless of race, color, creed, sex or handicap in compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.

About Us
- Helps over 1,200 children a year. In 2009, we supported 524 critically ill children and 820 siblings.
- Covers up to $100,000 a month in direct family expenses.
- Offers our services to children in over 22 counties in the New York tri-state region.
- Receives approximately 23 new cases per month.
- Assists children in 25 hospitals in the tri-state region.
- Provides holiday gifts to children and their families. through our Adopt-A-Family Program. In 2009 we provided gifts to 773 children in 311 families
