Bereavement
Surviving parents and siblings need special help to see each other through their loss.
After the death of a child, Friends of Karen continues our relationship with the family. Every family member experiences loss in a different way and we support families on an individual and as needed basis. We help these families through the grieving process and onto the healing process.
Friends of Karen Bereavement Support includes:
- Assistance with funeral arrangements and expenses.
- Counseling and support for parents and siblings through home visits.
- Acknowledgement of anniversary dates with cards, flowers and memorial candles.
- Referral and financial assistance for bereavement counseling.
- Age-appropriate books for siblings on the subjects of cancer, death and bereavement.
- Bereavement support groups for parents.
- Candle Lighting is an annual memorial ceremony that brings bereaved families together to celebrate and remember their beloved children.
- Quilt Program is an act of remembrance for each child through a lasting memorial quilt. Each quilt square is lovingly designed by family members in their child’s memory. The quilts are displayed at the candle lighting ceremony and other appropriate venues.

“We will never forget the support you gave us five years ago when our daughter was unfortunately sick and left this world…It was a very difficult time in which you, with the marvelous work that you do, showered us with your help which helped to sooth the pain. We thank you with all our heart.”
