Jim Witt, a former Earth Science teacher, loves kids. In 1986, as the WHUD 100.7 weather forecaster, he created a calendar with long-range forecasts and photos of the Hudson Valley.  Jim knew Sheila Petersen, Friends of Karen's founder.  He co-founded the Hope For Youth Foundation "just to raise money for children who've been dealt a lousy hand in life," as Jim puts it.  Friends of Karen became the first charity on their list.

The calendar covers 15 months (November 2012 - January 2014), and includes tips for hurricane preparedness, how lightning can be used to calculate a storm's distance, and "Mother Nature's Coming Attractions."  Every month features a stunning photograph of somewhere in the Hudson Valley -- and the weather forecast for each day.
