HOST A LOCAL EVENT

Whether at your job or in your own back yard, there are so many opportunities to host an event to benefit Friends of Karen.  From tag sales and baseball games to spin-a-thons and shop-a-thons, our supporters give their time and energy to organize events, raise money and increase awareness of the need that Friends of Karen fills for critically ill children and their families.

Be creative and find something that fits with your unique talents.

Below are a just a few examples:

  • Birthday Program – Collect items for our birthday toy pantry.  Contact Denise Tredwell to find out the most current items needed.
  • Food Program – Collect gift cards to Pathmark, A&P, Stop & Shop, ShopRite, Waldbaum's and King Kullen.
  • School Supplies Project – Fill a new backpack with school supplies.
  • Thanksgiving-in-a-Basket – Put together a basket of Thanksgiving food and a $20 supermarket gift certificate for the turkey.
  • Holiday Adopt-A-Family Program – Fulfill the wish list of a critically-ill child and their siblings.  Read our Adopt-A-Family page for more information.
  • Gift Certificate Drive – Collect gift certificates to Au Bon Pain, Dunkin’ Donuts, Panera, Subway, and Starbucks.  Many of these can be purchased online and sent to Friends of Karen.
  • Hospital Goody Bags – Collect bath & body products and put together gift bags for our hospitalized children and teenagers.
  • Dress-down Day:  Charge staff or students for the opportunity to “dress down” for the day.
  • Involve local community and service groups such as:
    • Rotary Clubs; Lions Clubs; Knights of Columbus
    • PTA, town-wide or library events
    • Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Youth groups
    • Book clubs, gardening organizations; fraternities or sororities
    • Professional organizations and Young Professional organizations
