An evening of fabulous food, drink and music along with exciting live and silent auctions and not-to-be-missed views of the world-famous Manhattan skyline await all who attend Friend of Karen's annual "An Evening at Tribeca Rooftop" on Thursday, September 22 at 6:30 pm in NYC. This special event will take place at the stunning Tribeca Rooftop at 2 Desbrosses Street and will be hosted by CNN anchor and correspondent, Randi Kaye.
This event benefits Friends of Karen, a non-profit organization that helps families caring for a child diagnosed with cancer or other life-threatening illness in the NY Tri-State area. Fittingly, September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month when “Go Gold,” which refers to the gold ribbon that symbolizes childhood cancer, is the motto. Friends of Karen provides essential financial, emotional and practical day-to-day support to more than 300 families each month who are faced with this heart-breaking disease and whose resources are stretched thin. Friends of Karen’s mantra is “Always Gold” because they are there for these children and their families a full 365 days a year.
Pamela Hervey, President of Friends of Karen’s Board of Directors, will be honored during the evening with the Sheila W. Petersen Award in recognition of her exceptional leadership and service to the organization. A highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the Hero Award to Lionel Li, a Friends of Karen teen. You’ll want to come hear his story. A hero, indeed!
Randi Kaye, Emmy Award-winning anchor and correspondent for CNN/U.S., will be the Master of Ceremonies. Since joining CNN in December 2004, she has covered an array of key news stories in addition to providing in-depth investigative reports. Randi is based in New York and is currently an investigative reporter for “Anderson Cooper 360.”

Friends of Karen is the only organization in the New York Tri-State area that provides comprehensive support, at no cost, to families caring for a child battling cancer or another life-threatening illness. Its team of social workers, child life specialists and creative arts therapists ensures that each family – and each family member – receives an individualized program of emotional, financial and advocacy assistance throughout their child’s illness. Friends of Karen helps relieve the family’s everyday needs and concerns to improve their ability to cope with their child’s illness from diagnosis through treatment, which can last many months or even years.
“Friends of Karen started with one child, Karen, in 1978 and since then has given life-changing help to over 14,000 children,” says Judith Factor, Friends of Karen’s Executive Director. “Our honorees exemplify the compassion and hope that the Friends of Karen lifeline provides to families so they can maintain a sense of balance and stability during the most difficult time of their lives.”
Friends of Karen serves all qualified families without regard to race, relition, national origin or cultural background. For more information, visit
