Gratitude
There is little doubt that the holiday season will look different this year. And what a year it has been; a year of sacrifice and adjustments, creative problem solving and tremendous change.  Any struggles we have endured, it is safe to say that our Friends of Karen families have experienced them ten fold.

To so many of us the holidays mean giving thanks, merriment and time spent with friends and family. The celebrations of the season are also about finding light in times of darkness. This has perhaps, never felt more welcome than in this year.  At its core the heartbeat of the holiday season is love. Love is something that is never in short supply among Friends of Karen children and their families. As always these beautifully resilient children remind us of what hope and gratitude look like.  We invite you to read their words below. We hope their poem brings you warmth, comfort and a bit of inspiration to your home this holiday season.

We Are Thankful…
We are thankful for our lives- to be put on planet Earth...

We are grateful for a roof over our heads, a warm home and three meals a day…

We are thankful for a good education, for school whether it is virtual or socially distanced.. Masks and all…

For animals- two cows and three little pigs on the farm, for our stuffed cats and teddy bears

We are grateful for our beds and books and Dave & Busters…

For the park, Legos, wifi, silly toys and the mall...

We are thankful for funny jokes, tickles and Larva Island on Netflix…

For soccer games- having fun with our teammates and kicking the ball around…

We are thankful for God, Jesus and Mickey Mouse…

For FOOD! - pizza, oranges, salad, sweet jello and chicken & soup…

We are thankful for cookies and freshly baked brownies, for popcorn & beef jerky ( but definitely not mixed together!)...

For art.. painting , drawing..getting messy and expressing ourselves…

We are thankful for the people we love the most…

Our friends and family…

Mom and Dad, our babies, our sisters and brothers, cousins, aunts & uncles, Grandmas & Grandpas, Abuelas & Mimis, Pop & Abba…

We are thankful for those who help us and those we help…

We are thankful for Friends of Karen…

For our uncle teaching us how to ride a bike and eskimo kisses from our mommy…

We are thankful for our kindness, open minds and talent for giving advice…

We are grateful for hugs & kisses, bedtime stories & secret handshakes, for smiles & laughter…

We are thankful for love, love, love.
