In preparation for his transplant, Luke has been working with Friends of Karen Child Life Specialist, Melissa Goldsmith:  

I have been working with Luke over the past several months helping to prepare him for his upcoming transplant and hospital stay. Luke and I have been exploring a play hospital, reading a book about going to the hospital, and using coloring pages to give him some visual images of things he may see when he’s there. Some of our work together has also involved helping Luke to become more comfortable with his monthly infusions. By providing him with the tools and language to perform real IV placements and begin to identify parts of his body (i.e veins), Luke has gained a greater sense of understanding and control of his environment.
