More than $900K Raised at NYC Gala Event for Friends of Karen
“An Evening at Tribeca Rooftop,” Friends of Karen’s gala fall fundraiser, attracted a crowd of more than 350 guests for a night of spectacular dining, entertainment and views of Manhattan’s skyline, raising over $900,000 to help provide vital, practical and comprehensive support, at no cost, to families in the tri-state region who are caring for a child with cancer or another life-threatening illness.
“An Evening at Tribeca Rooftop” honored Westchester residents Alessandra and Russell Hernandez and Kim and Greg Manocherian for their on-going support of the mission of Friends of Karen. Randi Kaye, Emmy Award-winning anchor and investigative reporter for CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360,” was the Master of Ceremonies, and singer-songwriter Livingston Taylor wowed the guests with his spontaneous musical performance.
“We are so grateful for the commitment of our supporters in making this event such a success for our families,” said Judith Factor, Executive Director of Friends of Karen. “While an event like this helps to raise money to assist the many families who need our support, our hope is that we also continue to engage our communities to share an awareness of the mission of Friends of Karen.”
Friends of Karen started in 1978 with one child and her family, and has helped nearly 14,000 children and their families since then with unremitting advocacy from a team of dedicated professionals – social workers, expressive arts therapists and child life specialists – who work to ensure they have the financial, emotional and practical support they need to get through the turmoil and treatment process of a devastating diagnosis.
