Sharon was introduced to Friends of Karen (FoK) in 1987 when her children participated in a swim-a-thon at Breezemont Day Camp. She has been a dedicated leader and volunteer, spearheading many special events, including the organization’s Westchester gala and 5 years of a special Friends of Karen tennis event at the Westchester Citibank Champions Tennis Tournament. Her father, Elmer, and children Kym, Jeff and Eric have all been volunteers and her children continue their involvement. Her husband, Jonas, also has been actively involved through his business Best Plumbing, Tile and Stone.

Sharon served in Somers, NY for 13 years, where she formed a Somers PTA council with all district schools. She volunteers weekly for HERO (Helping Expand Recreational Opportunities) where she helps provide tennis instruction to physically and mentally challenged adults, and was on the Board of the Eastern Adult Tennis Foundation, which raises money to give grants to grassroots tennis programs for adults. Sharon has served on the FoK Board since March 2006. She was awarded the Sheila Petersen Award at the FOK Gala in 2005.

Sharon and Jonas were honored in 2018 at the FoK 40th Anniversary Gala in NYC.
