How has Covid19 affected your work with families?
Covid19 has put every family on high alert .  It has added more stress and anxiety during an already difficult time.  Families are  concerned with the possibility of exposure to the virus and worries about how it will affect them. Parents are now concerned with every clinic visit and hospitalization that goes along with their child’s diagnosis.  It’s been very challenging for families to navigate everyday life.

As a social worker, I have tried to be more accessible to parents and children and have made more practical suggestions about how to cope with this overload of stress and anxiety. I continue to create more ways to support and encourage families to survive the days and to support them in their decisions about treatment, finances and family.

The work has been more challenging during this pandemic as I have sought to overcome the restrictions on face to face contact by keeping in touch with families through phone calls and zoom  meetings.  I’ve made it a high priority to maintain a sense of connection with families so that nobody feels isolated and alone.
