Remember that good feeling of heading back to school wearing a new outfit and carrying your crisp, clean notebooks and sharpened pencils? Friends of Karen families are struggling to stay afloat financially and emotionally while caring for their critically-ill child. Parents tell us how difficult it is to go into a store and see healthy children so excited about the new school year while their own child is in the hospital, uncertain about what the next day will bring. Often parents must agonize between buying new school supplies for their “well” child or paying the mounting medical bills for their ill child. No one should have to face that decision.
The Back-to-School Program kicks off in July each year.
